Well, it was a great spring break. I am sorry to see it go, but before I know it the summer will be here and I won't know what to do. I was hoping to take this summer off from working anywhere and visit my brother out in LA. In fact I am pretty sure that is what I am going to do. A week or so out there might just be want I need to totally relax and get away from things.

I need to talk to my PTO president about funding me some money to start a sports/fitness club after school. I have wanted to start a club for a while now and I think they would give me some money to start one at the school. The kids would be excited to have a sports/fitness club. I need to start planning for it so I have something to present to the president.

The idea for this game came to me after watching a kindergarten class in the regular classroom. They were playing this game, and I came up with an idea of adapting it to physical education. I have not had the chance to play the game in my class but I am looking forward to giving it a try.

Bang

* Students will develop skills of reading and muscular strength.
* Students will follow the directions of the activity.
* Students will participate in the activity.

- Provide some type of warm-up for your students.

Activity

- Split the students up into small groups.
- Each group gets a stack of card.
- Be sure there are different exercises written on the cards (i.e. pushups, straddle stretch, curlups, etc.).
- Within each stack is a card with the word "bang."
- Students sit in a circle.
- The first student takes the top card and performs the exercise.
- The next student takes the stack and takes the card on top and performs that exercise.
- The stack keeps moving around the circle with the students taking the top card.
- When the "bang" card is pulled, the student who pulled the card places her/his stack back in the pile.
- Students are trying to collect the most cards before time is up.

This game is a spin off a basketball game I have played. The students seem to enjoy it so you may want to give it a try in your next soccer unit. The students will learn to look up as they dribble the soccer ball and learn to control the ball.

Leap Frog

Objectives

* Students will develop skills of dribbling, foot-eye coordination, and control.
* Students will follow directions of the activity.
* Students will participate in the activity.

Equipment

- Soccer balls, and spots.

Warm-up

- Provide some type of warm-up for your students.

Activity

- Scatter spots on the floor.
- Give a soccer ball to some of the students.
- Students who do not have a ball will be standing on the spots.
- Students on the spots may move by leaping/jumping from spot to spot.
- Anyone standing on the spots are taggers.
- They try to tag the students moving through the court.
- The students who have a ball dribble with their feet from one end of the court to the other without getting touched.
- When a student is tagged s/he gives the ball to the student who tagged her/him and then becomes a tagger.
- If a student makes it to the other side without getting tagged, s/he receives a point and then gives the ball to any tagger.

Even though I am not a big basketball fan, I am glad to see my old college made it to the NCAA basketball tournament. After looking it up on the internet I am sad to say they lost yesterday, but at least they made it there. They were the only team from Iowa to be in the tournament. Go Panthers!

Keep them moving,
